For starters, the Kentucky Derby will race at Churchill Downs in Louisville, KY on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026. The race is 1 and 1/4 miles on the dirt. This is the first jewel of The Triple Crown. Only, twenty of the top twenty-four scoring horses are selected for the Kentucky Derby, leaving some also eligible to cover scratches.
